ACHIEVEMENTS OF COMMITTED INDIVIDUALS
HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
The Forces AVENIR High School Program is an extensive program aimed at recognizing and promoting high school students who have distinguished themselves, either individually or in groups, by carrying out projects which have enabled them to showcase their ideas, talents and knowledge and which have helped improve our society.
The Forces AVENIR High School Program will reach out to all high schools throughout the province of Québec and will promote both the students and their projects. It will be implemented progressively over the next five years. In 2007-2008, the inaugural year, the program was opened to all participating schools in the Québec City, Chaudière-Appalaches, Bas Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Côte-Nord regions. Schools in the Montréal, Laurentides, Lanaudière, Laval, Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Montérégie regions are now admissible for the 2008-2009 editions. In 2010-2011 it will be extended to the Saguenay-Lac_Saint-Jean. Finally, the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Outaouais regions will be invited to join in 2011-2012 when the program will be open to all high schools across Québec.
The steps to follow to become a finalist are simple. First determine in which category you wish to apply (Committed Student, Committed Staff Member, Committed Project or Persevering Student) and then fill out the online application form on the Forces AVENIR website. From Decembre 2010 to May 2011, an independent jury will examine all the applications submitted and select one finalist every week.
All finalist students and projects will receive a $500 grant and, every week, the commitment of one finalist will be recognized in the newspaper La Presse, Le Soleil or Le Quotidien. A gala evening will be held next June to pay tribute to the winners and finalists who have set themselves apart thanks to the Forces AVENIR high school program. Finally, televised vignettes about the winners will be broadcast on the Télé-Québec channel in the months following the gala.
The Forces AVENIR High School Program is divided into four categories, including the Committed Staff Member AVENIR, which aims to recognize members of staff who have been involved in an extracurricular activity with their students. The three other categories, namely the Committed Project, Committed Student and Persevering Student AVENIRs, will be awarded to students between the ages of 12 and 17.
Every year, the Forces AVENIR High School Program will bestow grants totalling over $14,500. Thanks to its public relations services and numerous partnerships, the program will make known and pay tribute to the achievements of high school students and is an exceptional platform for showcasing the commitment of our young leaders of tomorrow.
