Sharing Information as a Means of Better Understanding, Collaborating and Building
Kinia Adamczyk, of Polish origin, is an accomplished musician and communication studies and journalism student whose bold projects have always had a positive impact. The young woman, who is President of the Canadian Foundation for Polish Studies and a member of the journalism students’ association, strives to bring recognition to people who contribute to making their community a better place. After a visit to Guatemala, Kinia wrote an article about Canadian volunteers carrying out development projects there.

Dedicated to Promoting Greater Social Responsibility
Gabriel Bran Lopez, a student in communication studies and human relations, strives to rally people behind a common cause. He recently organized the Youth Fusion Jeunesse event to promote social commitment among young people between the ages of 12 and 17. He made his mark in the summer of 2006 working as a community development officer in the town of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan and then spent the summer of 2007 in Uganda helping young orphans suffering from the devastating effects of Aids.

Committed to Mutual Aid and Ethical Consumption
Isabelle Samson, who is currently pursuing a doctorate in medicine and a certificate in music culture, believes that it is possible to improve health by spreading joy. Aware of the loneliness of elderly people, Isabelle co-founded the MEDissimo choir, which performs over 30 concerts a year in hospitals and retirement homes. She is also driven by a strong ecological conscience and thus coordinated the “Mieux consommer pour moins consumer” day event, which provided participants with alternatives that favour sustainable development.

Committed to Playing a Decisive Role in the Greater Welfare of his Community
It was during a stay of several weeks in Senegal teaching mathematics and helping to renovate a school that Alexandre Châteauneuf discovered the true magic of social commitment. A student in an integrated Bachelor’s/Master’s program in engineering physics, he helped organize the Poly-Monde 2006 mission and then went on to become the coordinator of the Poly-Inde 2007 mission. His leadership skills even earned him the title of recruit of the year in 2006 when he participated in Parlement jeunesse du Québec.

Helping Young People Find Dreams and Passions
David Rancourt, with his passion for aeronautics, participated in the international finals of the 2003 Expo-sciences event thanks to his design of a remote-controlled plane with variable flight characteristics. David started piloting at the age of 16, is a member of the VAMUS student group which designs and builds miniature planes and has been in the Air Cadets for the past ten years. Despite his busy life, he still finds time to give lectures and share his knowledge, passing on his passion for the sciences to elementary and high school students.

Dedicated to Fighting Prejudice Towards the Poor
Law student Evelyne Pedneault made the most of her time working with the Collectif pour un Québec sans pauvreté organization to help develop the AVEC project, which aims to get people living in poverty involved in the issues relating to their situation. Aware of the need for tangible results, she then went on to help set up a housing cooperative. Evelyne is also involved in the protection of human rights and has given lectures at the European Social Forum and an international seminar held by UNESCO.

Committed to Building a More Just and Equitable Society
International law and international relations student Josianne Gosselin-Dubois took advantage of her experience with the Commission jeunesse de Gatineau to participate in projects such as the opening of the Caserne youth centre, the creation of the Festival jeunesse Outaouais and the development of an action program against illegal graffiti. As well as being the producer and host of a television show on the commitment of young people, Josianne has written a series of articles on the main issues related to human rights protection.

Committed to Fighting Social Injustice
Vanessa Redditt has a bachelor’s degree in international development studies and works at the Montréal YMCA’s Refugee Centre where she provides support to children between the ages of 4 and 15 who are learning the English language. As a member of the McGill Global AIDS Coalition, Vanessa set up workshops for high school students providing information on the social, economic and political repercussions of Aids. Her crusade against Aids also motivated her to spend three months working in a medical clinic in Malawi in the summer of 2006.
