Suzanne Bate’s goal is to obtain a higher education and become a model of commitment and accomplishment. This is nothing remarkable, one might think, except that Suzanne is a young Amerindian who dropped out of school for five years before deciding to invest in her peers. Quite a challenge for a young woman adopted at birth by a non-aboriginal family. A student of anthropology, religion and Aboriginal studies at Concordia University, Suzanne has multiplied her efforts of involvement in the university community and her concern for the needs of the Aboriginal community. Heading the Advocacy for Native Adoptees Association, she wants to help all those experiencing cultural alienation to better integrate into society.
