Québec City, 15 January 2009 – In 1998, a group of university students shared the dream of providing role models for future generations. Today, we are delighted to be launching the 11th application period for the Forces AVENIR university program. Over the past decade the organization has succeeded in increasing its credibility. And the success of the program, which pays tribute to student commitment, would never have been possible without the active participation of universities and partners. Every year, Forces AVENIR receives over a hundred applications from active and committed young people who, buoyed by their passions and the hope of a better world, surpass themselves in extraordinary projects.

Once again this year, grants totalling $114,000, as well as trophies and the chance to take part in international internships in collaboration with the Jeunesse du monde organization, will be awarded to the 33 individuals and projects that have succeeded in setting themselves apart. These university students will also have the opportunity to share their taste for commitment with high school students. “Forces AVENIR meets a need in our society, our academic institutions and our youth. We need inspiring role models who encourage us to aim higher, to think bigger, who have a constructive influence!” asserts Mr. François Grégoire, President and CEO of Forces AVENIR.

If you are enrolled at a participating university and are a full-time student, or recognized as such by your university, contact your university’s student services office to find out how you too can step into the spotlight. Until 31 March 2009, you can submit your application in one of the following categories:

Forces AVENIR is a non-profit organization that aims to recognize, honour and promote the commitment of young people in projects which enrich knowledge, arouse the desire for success and for surpassing oneself, encourage the development of community thinking and thus contribute to the development of socially conscious, active and responsible citizens who are both dedicated to their community and open to the world.
