Starting in Decembre 2011, the finalists will be presented to the population thanks to a full page in the newspaper Le Soleil, La Presse or Le Quotidien as well as in this section of our website. Moreover, the finalists may have the opportunity to give interviews on the radio or on television in the two weeks following the announcement of their selection.

At Curé-Hébert high school, Sarah-Ève Potvin is… everywhere! Whether she’s organizing fund-raising campaigns, managing a small company, participating in different student committees or offering her services at her local youth centre, the Secondary 5 student gets involved first and foremost “to get to know herself better.” But also, and more importantly, in order to share the best of herself with the people around her and enable them to in turn take part in new experiences.

A student committed to succeeding at school thanks to sports

For Alex Lalancette, a Secondary 4 student at Camille-Lavoie high school, schoolwork has never been easy. Suffering from dysphasia and faced with family problems, he has had to overcome numerous hurdles. The road was long and arduous but today he knows what he wants. And what he’s worth. His involvement in sports has proved to be his lifeline: a unique opportunity to learn how to channel his energy and reach higher summits.

Costa Rica Project

Students committed to pushing back the limits of mutual aid

At the beginning of March, five students at Curé-Hébert high school flew off to Costa Rica. A getaway in the sun, yes, but definitely not a beach holiday! The students instead took part in a genuine humanitarian aid trip after spending almost a year planning and raising funds for the project. The expedition enabled the Secondary 5 students to test their limits and proved to be an experience they will never forget…

Chantale Simard

A teacher committed to boosting the confidence of students with special needs

For Chantale Simard, who teaches visual arts to students with handicaps and social maladjustments or learning disabilities at Grandes-Marées high school, young people are an inexhaustible source of inspiration and motivation. “When I’m not at work, I miss them!” she admits. Day after day, she constantly innovates in order to set up new projects with the goal of enabling the students with special needs at her school to discover their strengths and reinforce their self-esteem.

A student committed to taking a stand and making things happen

Whether it’s in the fight against smoking or to curb bullying among youth, Alexandre Tremblay is not afraid to speak out and take action. Having personally suffered from bullying, the Secondary 4 student at Odyssée/Dominique-Racine high school fully understands the importance of taking a stand in order to make things happen. From the student government to the Réseau conseil de la gang allumée, as well as various theatre and event hosting projects, for Alexandre, involvement is an inexhaustible source of motivation.

A student committed to persevering thanks to extracurricular activities

When he entered Curé-Hébert high school, Jean-Philippe Lapointe was a shy and reserved student. Experiencing considerable difficulties at the academic level, he had often contemplated dropping out of school. As a result, the principal, Mrs. Josée Fortin, convinced him to take part in various extracurricular activities with the goal of encouraging him to develop his self-esteem. Jean-Philippe took up the challenge and is now fully committed to persevering and striving to go beyond his own limits.
