Avion Cargo

Committed to training engineers who will get tomorrow’s planes off the ground

Thanks to its many victories, the Avion Cargo committee is a paradigm of determination and innovation which helps maintain the École Polytechnique’s reputation for excellence. Every year, the team made up of a dozen undergraduate students from different engineering departments designs and builds a remote-controlled, small-scale model of a cargo plane, which has to be as lightweight as possible but capable of carrying the heaviest load. The students then present their prototype in the prestigious Aero Design competitions organized by the Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE), which bring together students from all over the world. Over the past 12 years, the group has been on one of the three levels of the podium at every competition and even obtained double gold in 2008. The Avion Cargo project is a unique opportunity for students to put into practice their knowledge and know-how and is an extraordinary learning experience.

Poly-Russie 2009

Committed to training future leaders who are open to the world

“Russia is not a newly developing economic market, it is one currently undergoing a complete transformation.” This statement of fact, declared by Justin De Lanauze, sums up the impression that Poly-Russie 2009 made on the twenty or so participating future engineers. The mission proved to be a rewarding experience in many respects and helped put an end to North American clichés, enabling students from the École polytechnique de Montréal to return home with the certitude that it is indeed possible to do business with the new Russia. Dedicating 20 to 25 hours of their time every week for at least one year, the students will publish the main conclusions of their experience in November 2009. Touching on four industrial sectors, namely mining and metals, gas and oil, aeronautics and aerospace engineering, and nanotechnologies and the biopharmaceutical industry, they hope to enable local businesses to discover Russia’s economic potential.
