A world traveller, polyglot (English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese), a high-calibre athlete (water-polo, soccer and triathlon), a musician and a veteran volunteer, Saskatchewan's Cath Mortin has always placed discipline and commitment at the heart of her priorities and projects. Currently doing a Master's degree in biomedical engineering at McGill University, she studied for two years in Australia at the beginning of the 1990s before returning to Canada to do an undergraduate degree in computer science at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. During seven years of studies, which included a cooperation internship, Cath visited five countries, taking advantage of each visit to learn or improve a new language while devoting her time to various organizations. She then went to China where she spent two years before returning to Montreal to begin her Master's degree. The recipient of a dozen scholarships and awards, she is, among other things, a member of both the McGill Rotaract Club and Big Brothers and Sisters of Montreal. She is also involved with the Chinese community, acts as a referee for different sports competitions and coaches a water-polo team.
