Future physicians from the Université de Montréal decided to reflect on the current state of the Québec healthcare system. The reason motivating students to launch the project was a heightened awareness of the flagrant lack of information and involvement of future physicians. Becoming spur-of-the-moment journalists, the 25 students involved in the project launched a special edition of Le Pouls, a student newspaper, in February 2000. Le Pouls provided an analysis of the Québec healthcare system. The 36-page brief had an important impact, sparking the interest of the media, universities, hospitals and different organizations concerned by this emerging issue.
