With his boundless curiosity and a passion for exploration and innovation, what Alexis Lussier Desbiens values, above all, is trying to find order in chaos. For him, asking questions and attempting to provide answers are as essential as eating and drinking. This fundamental need inspired him to pursue his studies in mechanical engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke where, among other things, he participated in the construction of a robot for detecting antipersonnel mines, founded the Projet étudiant de robotique et d’ingénierie de l’Université de Sherbrooke (PÉRIUS) and took part in various activities with the Canadian Space Agency, NASA and the German Aerospace Center. Strongly pro-science, Alexis believes that the actions he carries out today, and accomplishes with passion and determination, will help improve the world of tomorrow. Until then, the future engineer has every intention of excelling in both his research activities and his social endeavours. As a leader in the scout movement and the Cadets, a four-year member of the organizing committee of the Défi génie inventif, a judge at his region’s science exhibition and a member of a committee bringing together the students and teachers in his study programme, Alexis attaches much importance to popularizing his work and thus publishes articles and visits schools so as to narrow the gap between citizens and the sciences.
