Born in Bulgaria, with an almost perfect mastery of six languages and having attained the highest standards in sports, Dessilav Sabev, a doctoral student in Ethnology at the Université Laval, has a passion for both fieldwork and the communication of knowledge and learning. Winner of numerous scholarships, Dessilav, as well as being an active member of the Centre interuniversitaire d'études sur les letters, les arts et les traditions (CÉLAT) and of the Groupe d'études inuit et circumpolaire (GÉTIC), also has a keen interest in the peripheral regions, those outside the decision-making centres. This interest led him to the Russian Arctic where he lived with reindeer breeders and to Quebec City's lower town where he sought to understand popular participation during the Quebec Winter Carnival. In both cases, these research projects inspired him to take part in the World Summit on Nordicity held in Quebec City in 1999. This researcher has been published in several collective works and specialized journals in the field of social sciences in Canada, Finland and France and his intensive work with Nordic communities has even earned him a personal invitation from the President of Iceland to the international forum North Meets North.
