Fonds Équinox – simulation
Launched in 1997 by a group of students from the Université de Sherbrooke with the goal of enabling their colleagues in Finance to better adapt to the new realities of a constantly fluctuating domain, in September 2001 the Fonds Équinox performed its first stock market simulation in history. Succeeding beyond expectations, the event brought together over 130 participants from eight Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada universities. Enthusiastically simulating the most realistic stock market floor ever to exist in Quebec, the participants were stirred by the rhythms of high finance even treating themselves to a major crash at the end of the day. In fact, the enthusiasm aroused by this activity paved the way for other similar projects such as Indice Québec in which the participants must follow the evolution of companies for which they are responsible in order to modify the composition of the index. In concrete terms, the Fonds Équinox, the assets of which total over $65,000, substantially contributes to training the Quebec financial professionals of tomorrow, a fact demonstrated by its five individual victories and three team victories during the last seven simulations.
