Événement Interuniversitaire de Création Vidéo (EICV)
As a springboard for new artists, the Événement Interuniversitaire de Création Vidéo, whose mandate is to bring together artists from different disciplines and trends in the field of video, is an ideal opportunity for budding video directors to present the fruits of their work to an inquisitive and attentive public. Established in 1990 by a group of students at the Université du Québec à Montréal, the organization can now also count on the participation of students from Concordia University and the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. The 2004 edition, which was presented in a professional yet festive atmosphere during three consecutive evenings in February, took place in the heart of the Fonderie Darling in Montréal. The 2004 version presented 30 single-band videos, selected from the 75 submitted, produced by students from the Université du Québec à Montréal, Concordia University, the Université de Montréal and the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. It succeeded in attracting a record audience of nearly 1,000 people thus proving the organization’s commitment and rigour. As a follow-up to the event, a provincial tour of the winning videos was undertaken during the summer.
