In providing an infrastructure which favours projects, partnerships and learning within the university community of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), CHOQ.FM distinguishes itself by being both the first Internet radio station for information and entertainment in the Montreal region and by being the biggest student project in the history of a university with a population of 40,000. The proof is that the 200 or so volunteer students who evolve daily in the world of this medium with its proactive philosophy, innovative ideas and original approach, have succeeded in establishing themselves as the source of information for students on campus. In this regard, the recent setting up of a cultural portal through its Internet site aims, on the one hand, at informing students about cultural activities taking place on the UQAM campus, and, on the other, at giving concrete expression to the ties of collaboration established with several student groups and associations from here and elsewhere (Mexico, France, Belgium and the Congo). Furthermore, the musical anthology project which has just been launched will add a new dimension to the station and provide a platform for music groups from the local scene.
