Anxious to maintain a constant equilibrium between social involvement, academic success and her personal life, Kimberley Ducey has always been highly respected and appreciated by her peers for her determination, her great generosity and her sensitivity to the problems of those who surround her. With a passion for sociology, Kimberley Ducey is in the midst of completing with brio a doctorate at McGill University. She relentlessly maintains her social involvement and continues to cherish the quality of life of those around her, especially that of women and single mothers. A single mother herself, Kimberley has been involved in student associations since the beginning of her studies. Between her teaching tasks and her publications, Kimberley has organized a series of seminars for sociology students and has done this with the firm conviction that it is by exploring and discussing that the evolution of the human condition is made possible.

By carrying out brilliant research in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence at McGill University, Robert Sim intends to improve our society and ensure that the application of these inventions is done is a peaceful and responsible manner. A model of integrity and humility, this doctoral student has quickly learned to demonstrate to his peers, through numerous implications in the defence of student rights, the diversity of causes in which he believes. In fact, Robert has participated in the development of several projects on his campus. He has also participated in evaluation protocol reform and the graduate student association of his university as well as in studies on the development of a policy on intellectual property, a fundamental issue for graduate students in Quebec. Between computer science and all the social causes he has espoused, Robert takes his role as teacher to heart: he regards getting children interested in science as essential and offers them the opportunity to make regular visits to his research centre.

Faced with poverty since childhood, Mélany Bisson is a person for whom the fight against poverty and discrimination against women have long been a priority. A doctoral student in Theology at the Université de Montréal, she has been able to maintain a remarkable balance between her social involvement and academic success, and her dedication to others has been expressed in more ways than one. Between an international cooperation project in Nicaragua and a missionary cooperation internship in Honduras, Mélany has taken advantage of her spare time to become involved in her faculty council and her student association. She has also been involved in the L’autre parole feminist group as well as having founded several activities for women from different cultural communities on the occasion of the 2000 World March of Women.
