Committed to Pushing Back the Limits of the Imagination
The 28 student members of the Concrete Canoe Cub at ÉTS exercised their imagination and resourcefulness, and devoted countless hours to building a concrete canoe with room for four passengers. The students, who were extremely proud of their technical wizardry and their canoe, were crowned champions at the Canadian Concrete Canoe Competition and the American Regional Competition, and took third place at the 21st American National Competition.

Committed to Continually Innovating
The members of the OMER Human Powered Submarine Club at ÉTS were given an imposing task this year. As the successor to a long string of champions, the OMER 6 submarine succeeded in setting itself apart through its original propulsion system inspired by the penguin. Powered by two oscillating foils on each side of the hull, the originality and efficiency of the system enabled OMER 6 to set a new world record, shattering the former score by more than one knot with a speed of 4.642.

Committed to Developing Healthier Energy Alternatives
The Esteban V solar powered car, designed thanks to the creative genius of 25 students, is perfectly in line with the goals of environmental protection. From aerodynamics to the geometry of systems, from composite materials to electrical systems, the teams explored all avenues that could help improve their vehicle. In the fall of 2009, Esteban V will head to Australia to take part in the Panasonic World Solar Challenge where it will try to rank higher than its predecessor, which obtained an honourable 13th place.
