Committed to helping diversify the economy of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region

Philippe Lavoie and Simon-Pierre Murdock, two students at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC), exhibited great entrepreneurial spirit when they founded Morille Québec. Specializing in the picking and purchase of wild mushrooms, the recently established Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean enterprise concretely meets the diversification needs of a forest industry currently plagued by economic difficulties. Focusing their efforts on frozen fresh morels that would enable them to supply the market on a year-round basis, Morille Québec has already established strategic partnerships to ensure the processing and preservation of the mushrooms and has set up a network of wild mushroom suppliers. What’s more, the endeavour has already obtained Aliment du Québec certification and made its first deliveries, something the two entrepreneurs are very proud of.

Committed to helping meet the need for specialized labour in the Québec City area

In Canada, 28 universities have on their campus an AIESEC office, an international organization active in 107 countries. Voted best local committee in 2007 and 2008, the one at Université Laval has set itself apart by its excellence and already has numerous achievements to its credit. Beyond a doubt, AIESEC Laval’s presence in the region has positive repercussions for businesses and government organizations. In 2008, AIESEC Laval welcomed eight trainees and has already planned to receive 12 in 2009. For some businesses, as well as fulfilling labour needs in crucial fields, it is a unique opportunity to call on individuals who can help them develop new markets. Aiming for nothing short of excellence, AIESEC Laval was recently given the task of organizing a national conference that will bring together more than 300 delegates to be held in January 2010.

Committed to training future leaders who are open to the world

“Russia is not a newly developing economic market, it is one currently undergoing a complete transformation.” This statement of fact, declared by Justin De Lanauze, sums up the impression that Poly-Russie 2009 made on the twenty or so participating future engineers. The mission proved to be a rewarding experience in many respects and helped put an end to North American clichés, enabling students from the École polytechnique de Montréal to return home with the certitude that it is indeed possible to do business with the new Russia. Dedicating 20 to 25 hours of their time every week for at least one year, the students will publish the main conclusions of their experience in November 2009. Touching on four industrial sectors, namely mining and metals, gas and oil, aeronautics and aerospace engineering, and nanotechnologies and the biopharmaceutical industry, they hope to enable local businesses to discover Russia’s economic potential.
