Committed to helping future engineers prepare for the challenges of the market
For the past 18 years, a group of students at the Université de Sherbrooke have spared no efforts or creativity to design and build a small one-seater four-wheel drive vehicle with a view to participating in the Baja competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Currently ranked among the leaders at the annual competition, the Sherbrooke students must design a completely new vehicle every year and oversee all aspects involved in designing the prototype within a period of only eight months. Requiring commitment, discipline and perseverance, the project helps future engineers prepare for the technical, organizational and human challenges they will have to face in the North American market. Moreover, since 2006, the Sherbrooke team has ranked among the top ten teams at all the competitions it has entered.

Committed to training engineers who will get tomorrow’s planes off the ground
Thanks to its many victories, the Avion Cargo committee is a paradigm of determination and innovation which helps maintain the École Polytechnique’s reputation for excellence. Every year, the team made up of a dozen undergraduate students from different engineering departments designs and builds a remote-controlled, small-scale model of a cargo plane, which has to be as lightweight as possible but capable of carrying the heaviest load. The students then present their prototype in the prestigious Aero Design competitions organized by the Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE), which bring together students from all over the world. Over the past 12 years, the group has been on one of the three levels of the podium at every competition and even obtained double gold in 2008. The Avion Cargo project is a unique opportunity for students to put into practice their knowledge and know-how and is an extraordinary learning experience.

Committed to making science and its complexities more accessible
Every week, on the airwaves of CHOQ.FM, a team of enthusiastic young scientists help demystify the latest scientific news by calling upon the participation of specialists and students in the sciences. Christine Loiseau and Annie Claude Bélisle, the two students at the helm of the show, give of their time without counting the hours and have succeeded in surrounding themselves with a dynamic team. With enthusiasm, avant-gardism and creativity, the team behind the show has set itself the mission of making science accessible to everyone while ensuring that the information is relevant and entertaining. Convinced that science is an important part of general knowledge, the two radio hosts offer a scientific agenda, discussions on current affairs, interviews with science students, reports on various themes and distinguished guest contributors. In short, Vulgaires Scientifiques has found a place for itself in the flourishing scientific movement in Québec.
