Committed to making his region more dynamic to curb the exodus of young people

Through his determination and leadership, Séreyrath Srin, a linguistics graduate student at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) who is originally from Cambodia, chose to make the exodus of young people and the ageing population of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region his main battle horse. In turn a member of an event management committee and then its coordinator and vice-president and president of various associations, Séreyrath sees his involvement as simply his personal duty to the region that took him in. He re-established UQAC’s international students’ association, set up a multicultural festival, restructured the Corporation intégration Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, created a job day for newcomers and re-launched the activities of AIESEC-Chicoutimi, actions that were all aimed at making his region more attractive to young people and immigrants.

Committed to supporting community and individual development

As a teenager, Maude Léonard was already captivated by everything relating to human beings and the environment, a fact manifest in the time she devoted to visiting senior citizens at retirement homes. Today, at the age of 29, the community psychologist currently completing a doctoral thesis at UQAM is still possessed by this same fascination. Involved with the Maison Marguerite, a shelter for women in difficulty, Maude developed a program for children aged 0 to 5 who have been exposed to marital violence. Recognized for her depth of thought, her overflowing enthusiasm and her rallying spirit, she has been a member of Suicide Action Montréal (SAM) since 2003. Proud of her ecological convictions, she founded Troc-tes-Trucs, an organization with the mission of promoting and encouraging sustainable development and responsible consumption. She now has plans to establish a community psychology consultation cooperative.
