A student committed to improving the condition of women here and elsewhere
In 2009, when the Québec government adopted the Québec Charter for a Healthy and Diverse Body Image, a unique charter in North America, it was in large part due to the determination of Léa Clermont-Dion and her commitment to the cause of women. Léa has been a feminist activist since adolescence and when she was still only in high school, she launched a petition demanding that the government pass legislation requiring that the fashion industry offer a greater diversity of body images. It took many years of hard work to finally attain her goal. Ever since, the student in international relations and international law at the Université du Québec à Montréal has been simultaneously carrying out numerous other projects to further the cause of women. She gives talks at high schools on various themes as a means of raising awareness among youth, has been involved with Oxfam-Québec for the past seven years for which she helps organize the Marche 2/3 and in 2010 took part in a Québec sans frontières internship in Burkina Faso.
